Pharaoh Horses - This image became a back piece and chest piece staple in the tattoo business from the turn of the twentieth century up to the 1950s. One of the earliest examples of Pharaoh’s Horses is from Gus Wagner

In biblical times, horses were a symbol of wealth, status and, in warfare, power. While the galloping steeds of Pharaoh's Horses convey a sense of power, majesty and grace, the implied reference to Exodus 14 suggests a symbolic warning against the singular pursuit of a tragic course without regard to the consequences: "The water flowed back and covered the chariots and horsemen—the entire army of Pharaoh that had followed the Israelites into the sea. Not one of them survived (Exodus 14:28)." In this vein, Pharaoh's Horses could be seen as a thematic variation of the Sailor's Grave tattoo image.

Pharaoh's Horses symbolizes the struggle and triumph of the human spirit over oppression. In Exodus the Hebrews were slaves fleeing from bondage. Pharaoh pursued them into the Red Sea where the Hebrews decisively won their freedom, and Pharaoh lost his entire army. The human spirit desires to be free. When confined, it is a force to be reckoned with. Its power has moved oceans, defeated armies and brought down empires. I had Pharaoh's Horses tattooed on my chest as a show of respect for the human spirit and to tap into its power.

For your own good - Watermarks on your images

Those last few days I've been looking for Old Timer Tattooers photos to do the serie that i'm working on that is just portraits of them with tattoo designs around, some of you probably already saw that some photos around.

Anyways, the problem is... while i was looking for them i also saw that many of you (tattooers in general) in your personal blogs, are uploading the images of your own flash sheets and paintings in high resolution, and it's really bad for you, specially in the internet where 90% of the times people just want to take advantage of one over another usually. And what I have to say is you need to fix the images on your blog soon people, your paintings are in high-resolution and any scunbag can download your images, print them (cuz they are in a reasonable quality to do that) and rip of all your work/effort...(I have to admit that this last part is from a person that i already sent message yesterday)

So, I found this tutorial to make your life better.

And another to resize the image to not let it in high-resolution.

PS:

1- dont forget to save backup copies of the images to ensure that you will not watermark the same file as you use to print, copy the image, save in another different folder and work on the copy. If you watermark the original file and save you will regret it for the rest of your life i you dont have the original painting to scan again.

2 - 800px for width or height is already large enough for a internet image.

3 - resolution of 72dpi also is already enough for internet, more than that (eg. 100dpi -200dpi - 300dpi) you will be just making it easty to someone steal you.

Lighthouse - The lighthouse is usually seem as a welcome sight for seafarers, and by his warning to the sailors that there is land next it has come to mean safety (by his warning to the ships not ht the rocks) and protection (because the land is near). The light in the lighthouse can also mean guidance giving direction to those off course.

A lighthouse also can represent a new change for the better, a light to the lost or even rescue.

So.. lots of problems and disappointments today to complete my day, and I was with no mood at all to "work" (because I know that in days like this when I have to work the work end up like a big ball of crap), anyways, I decided to do somethings for myself cuz that way, if I screw in something while I'm drawing I would not have to do all over again. Well, my creativity in days like that dont work really well too, so I did some "google images" research and found a design made in a whale tooth, the design is from around 1890 (if I'm not wrong, I'll put it below)

Long story short I did a revamp of this design, with some little modifications, and added "Electric Tattooing" to fit well on a 12x16in sheet, the sketch and the Lineart are below in case you want to take a look.

To be honest I don't know "how wrong" it that I made is... Anyways, at least I'm keeping the credit of the original artist for myself (artist that probably unfortunately is not among us anymore) and saying that it's mine...
